In this episode of All1nclusive Tracy and Meenal talk about positive discrimination and how it can play out in society. We all want to be treated fairly, no matter what our ethnicity or background may be. But for some people their ethnicity helped them get a job. Is that a good thing? Is this a case of political correctness going too far or is it necessary to level out the playing field? Tracy also shares her own experiences of positive discrimination and how it made her feel.
They also talk about the inspiring work of Jo Newby, foster carer extraordinaire , who recently had a statue erected in her honour in London's Southbank. They talk about her work with foster care kids and the pan disability inclusive football club Jo founded for children. This is an amazing accomplishment for an everyday woman, and Tracy and Meenal are excited to share her story.
Ever met someone who's name is just too hard to pronounce? If you've ever had trouble pronouncing someone's name, you're not alone. A lot of people have trouble with non-Anglo sounding names. In this weeks "What would YOU do?", Tracy and Meenal discuss the topic of anglicising names to make them easier to pronounce. This puts out there, whether we realise it or not, the suggestion that names that aren't Anglo sounding aren't the norm and your name (and therefore you) are not worth getting to know. It's a funny and thought-provoking episode that will make you think twice about what's in a name.
