In Chapter one, David hears of King Saul’s death, and also the death of his beloved friend Jonathan.

As Saul lay dying he asked an Amalekite to kill him because he was in the throes of death. The Amalekite did so. He reported all this to David who asked him, “Why weren’t you afraid to lift your hand to destroy the Lord’s anointed?” Then he had him killed.
