In November 2018, I took part in National Novel Writing Month, an annual creative writing challenge in which I set a goal to write a 50,000-word novel in 30 days. The result was "The Spice of the Autumn Night," a clumsy and meandering tale of friendship and adventure, with inconsistent characterization and a plot that barely holds together. I couldn't keep such an absurd and unpolished rough draft to myself, and because I re-write even worse than I write, I decided to share it with you as-is, one ridiculous chapter at a time.
