S13E1: Relationship between Satan and Magic

Listen Later

The relationship between Satan and Magic has been a topic of interest and debate in various religious and non-religious circles. In the Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, Satan is believed to be an entity separate from God, who seeks to lead people astray from the path of righteousness. In these religions, magic is often viewed as being associated with the work of Satan, and is sometimes equated with the worship of evil forces.

In the Jewish tradition, magic is considered a form of divination, which is forbidden in the Torah. The use of magic is seen as a way of seeking knowledge or control outside of the will of God, and is therefore considered an act of rebellion against the divine. The Talmud, the central text of Rabbinic Judaism, also speaks against the use of magic, describing it as a form of sorcery that leads to destruction.

In Christianity, the relationship between Satan and magic is similarly complex. The New Testament identifies Satan as the source of all evil, including magic and other forms of divination. In the Book of Acts, for example, the apostle Paul confronts a magician named Simon Magus, who is described as a practitioner of magic arts. The use of magic is also condemned in the letters of the apostle Paul, who writes that those who practice magic will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Islam has a similar view of magic and its relationship to Satan. The Quran speaks of magic as a form of disbelief and a means of separating people from the path of God. According to Islamic tradition, the use of magic is considered a major sin, and those who practice it are said to have made a pact with Satan. The Quran also mentions the story of Harut and Marut, two angels who were sent to Babylon to test the people by teaching them magic. However, they warned that those who practiced magic would be punished by Allah. It is mentioned in the Quran that the person who led the Banu Israel stray from the right path and made them start worshiping the golden calf was Samri - a magician. So he actually performed the business of Satan.

In other words, Satan whispers and the actual work is done by the magician as it forces the people to see something different. As a result, Satan’s whisper becomes more powerful and this reinforcement loop leads to destruction like that of Banu Israel.

In addition to the religious perspectives, there are also non-religious views on the relationship between Satan and magic. Some people believe that magic is simply a form of psychological manipulation, and that there is no actual connection to the supernatural realm. Others view magic as a form of superstition, a holdover from ancient times that has no real basis in fact.

Regardless of one's perspective, the relationship between Satan and magic remains a topic of interest and discussion. Whether viewed as a manifestation of evil or simply a cultural phenomenon, the association between these two concepts has endured throughout history, and continues to capture the imaginations of people today.
