In our second episode we sat down with Tony Baumann, owner of Made Rad Custom Paint Co. (https://www.maderad.com/)). Tony is one of the most renowned custom painters in the mountain biking space, earning nods and jobs from celebrity actors to the most famous professional mountain bikers in the world.
However, it didn't start there. Tony's first custom paint job was due to a hand-me-down bike from his older sister. The fear of skidding up to his friends in a frilly pink bike triggered Tony's artistic abilities. With the help from his pops, Tony made his first custom bike at a very young age.
During his time at Specialized, Tony was dabbling in custom paint jobs for co-workers and friends. Suddenly and quite literally, a paint job for the infamous Ken Block fell into his lap. Little did Tony know that this one paint job would put Tony and Made Rad onto the mountain biking map.
Tony explains to us how saying "yes" more than "no" opens doors that can lead to success. Saying "no", although it protects your time, closes off potential paths to success.
Listen in to hear what is next for Tony and Made Rad and how the intrinsic value of art can be difficult to monetize and scale.
