"I was born premature a month and a half early, and actually died and was placed in an incubator for 3 months in the NICU. Because of all of that as I was growing up my mom was convinced I was severely mentally disabled to profit from it since I was 5, she made the world believe I had mild mental retardation, borderline IQ major depressive disorder, and many other massively outstanding disabilities. Throughout my childhood I was physically abused by her boyfriends and was also forced into 3 different mental facilities to get re evaluated so she could keep getting ssi for me.
During those many re evaluations I was on many different meds like a guinea pig for the doctors. As I got older I figured it all out and right as I was about to graduate I asked her why she never saved up even a few dollars each month for college or something and she said I can't deal with you your leaving, to prevent me from suing her she then got me a guardian/payee by the state I live in and forced me to live in an adult foster care for people with severe disabilities who actually did need that attention to live. We had staff members around the clock driving us around in a van everywhere, making sure we take meds etc. I really thought my whole life was over then.
I was there trapped for 4 years until I met my community mental health worker who believed in me and helped me get myself re evaluated, and find a lawyer who ended up helping me for free since I couldn't afford him. Within 10 minutes of that court case I was a free man and finally able to live a normal life with a family and love.
As all that was happening at the end I met my wife who was my girlfriend at the time. We have been together for almost 9 years now and thanks to her believing in me as well I have overcame so much over my lifetime.
Lastly the past 3 years I have had 3 major surgeries from all the abuse as a child on my hands, with a metal rod and 7 screws as well as a row of bones removed and another surgery on my other hand.
I almost gave up on myself again but then I worked so hard to get to where I am now. A father, a mentor, a husband and a mental/physical health advocate."
