S1E3: Hormonal Health

Listen Later

Struggling with Hormonal Imbalance?

Don't miss this episode where Taryn and Lecinda share their personal struggles on this topic.  Plus Lecinda answers some difficult questions on testing, continually receiving normal results and the importance that metabolic health has on supporting your hormones.

Lecinda shared more on metabolic health and mentioned 5 markers that can be looked at.

Metabolic Health refers to the state of balance between storing fat and burning it for energy.

Health is adversely affected when this balance is disrupted.

Optimal metabolic health is achieved when someone meets to following markers:

* Average Blood Glucose (HbA1c): >5.7% ( > 39mmol/L)

* Blood Pressure: <120/80mmHg

* Waist Circumference: <88cm for women; <102cm for men

* Blood Triglycerides levels: <1.7mmol/L ( < 150md/dl)

* High-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) <50 mg/dL (1.3 mmol/L) in women; <40 mg/dL (1.04 mmol/L) in men

Metabolic syndrome may be diagnosed if 3 or more of the above markers are exceeded.

This is a very useful place to start when looking at your hormonal health. The body functions as whole intertwined web of biochemical reactions, cofactors, cell signaling etc.

If someone has high cholesterol it's highly likely that their whole steroid pathway might be implicated. Cholesterol is our 'master' hormone if you like and other hormones like progesterone, cortisol and testosterone are made by organs by taking up cholesterol.

That's one snippet of how your metabolic health may influence your hormonal health that Lecinda discusses on this episode.
