The Jane Marwick Show

S1E35: Around The Traps Ep 5

Listen Later

Leigh Strange in Bruce Rock is dealing with an oat crop that just didn’t get enough rain, but he’s got some great parenting advice on resilience and the important role of sport, especially in rural communities. Conversely, Tony White’s hay crop is looking good, and he’s busy working to 3am to get it cut, but he’s not too busy to take his boys to a local Nyoongar celebration which gives him pause for thought about unemployment, and he has some good ideas about older Australians, especially pensioners filling the gap in employment at harvest. Raelene Hall on the politics of COVID 19 says it’s time to consider learning to live with the virus, and she’s had a visit from the McGills. Julian is on the road with his wife Dale, up to Neds Creek and Karajini – with some useful tips for travellers and plenty of laughs along the way. Meanwhile, Sam Burgess has been to the doctor, and has had the difficult task of packing up his wife’s belongings after they agreed to separate. Sam put a message on social media about checking up on your friends on RU OK Day, is preparing to start contract hay cutting, but in true Sam-style, laconically offers “I’m living the dream”. Brad Jones joins Jane in the studio to talk about the Qantas captains who’ve been working on his farm during COVID, and talks about flights, borders and having family in Queensland when you live in WA.
