Sustainability is a word that can mean many things. But, many times when people use the term, they use it as a synonym for environmentally friendly. In my opinion, that's a very narrow view of the word.
Google defines sustaininabilty as:
* the ability to be maintained at a certain rate or level.
* avoidance of the depletion of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance.
Because people have a tendency to look at sustainability primarily from an environmentla perspective, the first part of the definition, "the ability to be maintained at a certain rate or level" gets lost.
I admittedly approach this from a bit of a prepper point of view. While I don't have bunkers filled with guns, ammo and MRE's, when I think about sustainability on my homestead, I am thinking about worst case scenarios: What if the proverbial poop hits the fan. Do I have systems in place where I could maintain our life at a meaningful level?
On this episode, I talk about that as well as sustainability from an environmental perspective. We talk about some ways that you can build sustainability into your homestead journey.
Enjoy!!
