S1E8: Avi - Four Countries, Two Sons, One Self

Avi -

Avi, originally from Israel, is a mother of two now living in the Netherlands. Together with her husband, she has moved from Israel to Japan, then to the United States, back to Israel, and most recently, to the Netherlands.

In Japan, she experienced quite the culture shock - she learned that when Japanese people say “maybe,” they actually mean “no,” which completely stunned her straightforward Israeli mind. She also shared her experience of giving birth to her first child in Japan.

Later, in the United States, while her husband’s career was thriving, Avi faced her own challenges - after a full year of job hunting without success, she finally managed to make a career transition through sheer persistence. Looking back, she now sees these experiences not as sacrifices, but as opportunities for her and her family to grow together.

This episode was recorded remotely - while I was in the UK, Avi was in the Netherlands. This is Season 1, Episode 8 of Wondering Zoe, and also the final episode of the season. In this season, Zoe invited eight friends with cross-cultural experiences to share their inner journeys as foreigners living abroad.
