Something that is a passion of ours is truly reading the Word of God in the proper context so that you get everything out of it that is intended. This episode is part 2 of a 6 part series that will equip you to read the Bible in the way it was intended to be read. We will go over the lens of "Culture" in this episode.

The questions to ask while reading the Bible through the cultural lens is:

  • Is this a Jewish context? Roman? Egyptian? Babylonian? Etc.?
  • How is the context (Jewish, Roman, etc.) impacting the story?
  • What cultural clues are given explicitly in the passage?
  • What cultural aspects are sitting below the surface?
  • How are values, such as honor and shame, influencing the story?
  • What assumptions are we making based on our own cultural lenses
    • that may or may not be accurate in the story?
