Despite incumbent California Gov. Gavin Newsom's victory over the recall effort, there are some concerning signs for Democrats in the state and region as it relates to demographic shifts. Hispanic Americans are increasingly gravitating toward the GOP while college-educated white voters clinched the state for Newsom, backing him by a 70-30% margin. The trend with Hispanics, however, may indicate that the region will become more competitive in the future.
