S2 E4. What To Do Now That You Have Found Your Purpose | Finding Your Purpose PART 2

Listen Later

Now we know that we can use our emotions to find a temporary purpose. So, which ones should we use, and how do we actually use them?

Negative emotions can only get you too far. You look at these TikTok’s and Instagram reels talking about fulfilling your villain arc, or dark stage… it's cringe. Stop it.If you really want to make progress, you cannot be motivated by anger, sadness, frustration, envy, or any other terrible thing like that. Sure, every now and then it might feel nice to let off some steam by lifting some weights, or painting a picture, or whatever it is you circled on your piece of paper. But once again, not much progress would be made. Nothing good comes from anger. In fact, the only way that I do to utilize my anger is by meditating and clearing my head, because usually when I am so deep into my emotions, I stop thinking overall. So, it is easier to meditate. Any by meditating, through deep breaths, and nature, and quiet, I calm myself down. This is what you have to do when you are infected with an emotion as infamous as anger or frustration. They are called negative emotions for a reason

2) A quick disclaimer: throughout the process of working on yourself and doing that thing you’ve been meaning to do for a long time, you will feel negative emotions. It would always be passionate. There will be times of boredom and frustration and irritation when trying to be the best you can be at something. But! For the majority of the time, you will enjoy it, because it is something you love doing, or iit's something you know you would enjoy doing. I knew I would enjoy podcasting, but I also knew it would require hours of editing and creating a set up, and scheduling guest episodes, and writing scripts, and coming up with topics to talk about. After a certain point, it gets draining. But I love doing it, so here I am.

The first step you have to take when fulfilling your temporary purpose is to make it your identity. In my case, I am not someone you is trying to get into podcasting. I am a podcaster. If you are trying to quit drinking alcohol, you aren’t going to tell others and yourself that you’re trying to stop drinking. You don’t drink alcohol.

Next, you need to construct an action plan. Lets do it together. Get out another sheet of paper, and list the days of the week. Even better, if you have an agenda book or a planner, get that out. Usually what I do is list out the things I would like to do the next day. So I would get out my journal, and talk about what I would like to get done.

Meditation!! Yes! You have to meditate every now and then. Now, meditation is in many forms. You don’t need to go out into the wilderness and cross your legs and make all the om noises. Meditation is very simple. There is the quote from an old guy that I don’t quite remember his name: “If meditation is hard for you, you’re doing it wrong. Step 1: Sit on a chair; bottom on the chair, feet on the ground. Step 2: Listen and look.

That is meditation summed up for you. And you can do this for how ever long you want. I personally recommend 10-15 minutes daily, mainly because I nor most people realistically have time to meditate for hours in one day. Now, don’t be too thrilled, because meditation is only one of the many habits you need to develop in order accomplish your mini-purpose as efficient and as amazing as possible. Basically, don’t waste time.

The 80-20 rule: You might have heard about it already. When you have a goal set in mind, you kind of already know what you have to do to accomplish it. And there’s always that one big task that, if you are like me, we don’t really want to do that. So we’re gonna waste time doing little mini-tasks that aren’t very useful, but we think are still being productive.
