Danny Leo joins me in 'The Engine Room' to discuss his musical journey. Youngest of 3 musical boys (others are guitarists) raised in Croydon, South Australia, Danny always found himself drawn to drums and listening to his favorite band at the time 'KISS'. He received his first pair of sticks when he was 6 from one of his brothers friends who was a drummer and this sparked his desire to play. Danny was given his first kit at age 9 from the drummer at the church that the family attended, and his parents to this day dislike this particular friend as Danny hasn't stopped playing since. He began playing with the church band when he was 11, playing in the band with people 3 times his age. Almost giving up playing in high school due to choosing to play basketball over music, thankfully when Danny finished year 12 in 1999 his passion for drumming returned and he decided music was it. The ten years that followed were years of unhealthy hours of practice, studying drums with former guest Laurie Kennedy at Noarlunga TAFE, attending Prides Business College, countless rehearsals, bands, gigs, tours, sessions, and teaching drums. He became a local hero in Adelaide in 2010 scoring the holy throne of tribute shows as the drummer for the Led Zeppelin Tribute band the 'Zep Boys'.
Danny Leo is known for his heavy hitting, finesse and groove. DRUMscene Magazine, Australia's number 1 drum magazine regards Danny as one of Australia's premier drummers. Danny is the former powerhouse behind the original Melbourne rock n roll outfit 'King of the North'. He moved to Melbourne in January 2012 and quickly became one of the most talked about rock drummers due to his hard hitting, fast moving sweat shows all around Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Sydney, and Europe. Shows including Cool Summer, Cherry Rock and Folk Rhythm & Life festivals, Apollo Bay & Gum Ball festivals, residencies at the Retreat, Espy and Cherry bar, main slots at Rock The Bay and Rock N Load at the Espy, and the main support for Cold Chisel at Festival Hall. Danny moved back to Adelaide with his wife after the birth of their daughter, and rejoined the Zep Boys. He is currently the drummer for 'Fluff', 'Forest Of Gnomes', singer songwriter at 'Lion Music', as well as filling in for other bands.
