In today's episode, Judy G. opens up about her years of running and how she completed the ultimate quest of running a marathon in all 50 states. Judy also talks about her involvement with Jeff Galloway's running program, her first marathon at Disney, and one of her meaningful races, the annual Battan Memorial Death March held in Las Cruces, New Mexico. A military veteran, mother of three, and graduate of Clemson University, Judy juggles many important roles while still running to stay fit.
According to the Las Cruces Sun Times, "Founded in 1989 by ROTC cadets at New Mexico State University, the annual march commemorates American and Filipino soldiers in World War II who were forced to march 65 miles through jungle terrain. Each year, the event draws thousands of participants, including survivors of the 1942 death march, to the U.S. Army installation east of Las Cruces, for a 26.2-mile hike or run through sandy terrain on an uphill circuit from the main post around Mineral Hill, north of US Highway 70."
Like previous guests, Judy also shares her favorite running shoes, running gear, and races that she is looking forward to in the years ahead. As someone who is steadily making my way to run a half marathon in all 50 states, I found Judy offered me the inspiration I need to keep going. I hope she inspires you too!
The 50 State podcast series is about the power of running and health-the ways that we find community, inner strength, and beauty when we lace up and explore the world around us. I am delighted Judy G. kicked off Season 2 with such inspiration!
