S2 Ep 2 - A Torch Against the Night: Your emotions make you human

Listen Later

We love A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir so much that we recorded this episode twice (just kidding, tech difficulties are the worst, but honestly? Talking about this series again was not a hardship). Taking everything that made An Ember in the Ashes unforgettable and raising the emotional stakes, Torch delivers more romance, more mystery, and betrayals so brutal they feel personal (from the characters and the author herself).

In this spoiler-filled episode, we pick up right where the story ends in Ember on the run, deep in danger, and emotionally unwell. We spend time with Helene’s devastating arc, Laia and Elias’s growing connection, and the questions this book raises about power, violence, displacement, and survival.

Plus, we gush about the audiobook narration by Fiona Hardingham, Steve West, and Katharine Lee McEwan, whose performances elevate an already incredible story and make every emotion hit harder. They even have some connections between themselves!
