Coach Rick Popp graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1983 where he played quarterback for the undefeated regular season Mountaineers whose only loss was to, wait for it….Kingsford! He also played basketball and tennis, while being in the National Honor Society and the top 10% of his class academically.

Rick went on to play Quarterback at Northern Michigan University, where he was a two-time team captain, All GLIAC First Team, Team MVP and received an All American Honorable Mention.  He left NMU with a Computer Science degree in 1988. Rick also holds a master's degree in Public Administration.

Coach Popp went on to work for the Ford Motor Company for close to 30 years and found his way back to the U.P. and into Flivver Blue.
