On this episode of the podcast, we spoke with Vyky Saiz. Vyky is earning her MFA in Directing from Florida State University.
During her undergrad years at UCF, Vyky earned a sociology degree, but always had a passion for filmmaking during her education. For personal reasons she left film behind for a time, teaching English, sociology, and economics to high school seniors for seven years.
Vyky explains that her students often came from less than ideal situations, but Vyky’s young age allowed her to create long-lasting bonds with her students. Her experience as a teacher to these children taught her to be grateful for life in general, and she was given meaningful insights during her time as an educator which prepared her for the intensity of filmmaking.
Her students eventually encouraged her to pursue a different career that made her happy and fed her soul. While Vyky didn't want to leave teaching or her students behind, she needed a life that was truthful and fulfilling in a different way - something to think about in your own life as you listen today.
