In this episode I explain why Harry can't see thestrals. Enjoy!
Summary: Harry has seen his fair share of death throughout his life. However, the magical creatures known as thestrals were only started being visible in his fifth year. As you know, when a person sees death, they can see thestrals. Btu Harry only saw them after Cedric was killed. Why? Well, maybe Harry actually didn't see death. He could have blinked right when the killing curse hit whom ever it was intended to hit. That is a solid argument for about four seconds when we realize the mental acceptance is what counts. When someone sees death and fully accepts it happened, thestrals will appear to them. I want to stay on that topic for a second. I don't think Harry fit those requirements. When his mother was killed it happened right on front of him, yes, but he was only one. As a baby, death might not be a fully formed concept in his mind. But what about Quirrel? Harry was much older and Quirrel died right in front of him. This could be explained, because I don't think Quirrel fully died. Keep in mind, Quirrel and Voldemort were very close and seemed to be the same person. You get it? Voldemort survived! He flew off right before Quirrel died so he wouldn't follow. Only half of that life force was killed. It was only when Cedric was killed when Harry realized. His friend was dead. And there was no going back.
