Be warned, there’s even more tangents than usual on the show, but that’s why you should join me on NoFilter.net Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:15 pm ET! On the show tonight:
Joe begins with some sad news. Brooks Robinson passed away today at the age of 86. Joe reviews his career and highlights and some fact you may not have known. (Tangent with the Phillies clinching the wild card with their 10th inning walk off)
Joe then talks about his weekend. He wagered on the Pennsylvania Derby card at Parx Racing but did not venture out for a few different reasons. He also replayed the PA Derby video as Jessica Paquette made history as the first female track announcer to call a Grade I race in North America.
He also went to the Phillies game, which did not turn out to be the wild card clinching game, but he had a mixed experience. He had the joy of not hearing ANY Mets fans Sunday night, but did have to deal with a millennial/Gen Z/whatever this generation is called couple with their 2 kids. Only Joe could have a night like he described and talk about a one-hit wonder “Pop Goes the Weasel” by 3rd Bass!
Finally, Joe gave some thoughts on the Eagles as they go to 3-0, as well as talking about the Dolphins putting up SEVENTY(!!!) on Sunday!
Sales of Travis Kelce’s jersey went up 400% since it was confirmed that he and Taylor Swift are (allegedly) dating. Ratings were up in the 12 to 17-year-old female demographic despite being down slightly overall over this time last year.
Everything is imploding in New York Jets land. They had 2 bad losses in a row, and Aaron Rodgers said on The Pat McAfee Show that the team needs to grow up and not point fingers. Maybe that would be more effective if he was in the locker room right now despite being out for the year? And Zach Wilson is so bad that Joe Namath wants the Jets QB traded and the head coach and general manager fired.
Colin Kaepernick sent a letter to the Jets to ask them to consider him for a practice squad spot. Did they? Probably not. Joe thinks even with Kap being blackballed, that ship of him being a QB in the NFL has passed after being out of the league 7 or 8 years. Cason Wentz, Matt Ryan, and Chad Henne’s names were also thrown around the last week or two.
There is the potential of promotion and relegation in college sports. Washington State and Oregon State is trying to keep the Pac-12 (or Pac-Whatever) name and work with the Mountain West. Joe thinks if this model does occur, we could see this with the three power conferences making their own division that was mentioned by Dan Patrick on his show numerous times.
Finally, Joe gives his pick for this week’s Thursday Night Football game.
