S3 Ep. 4: Behind Closed Doors: A Therapist and Her Former Client Speak Openly

Listen Later

Have you ever wondered what goes on between a client and her therapist behind closed doors? Have you been afraid to find out? This candid interview between a former client and therapist after co-authoring their book, Healing from Incest: Intimate Conversations with My Therapist, reveals the relationship of deep mutual trust, connection, and support that creates an emotional environment for therapeutic success and it has been selected for the Book of the Year Award (BOTYA/IndieFab) finalist for 2016 in the psychology category. “After over 30 years working with clients suffering trauma from childhood sexual abuse and other kinds of abuse, I must say my mind, heart and spirit feel full of these stories and the horrible impact abuse has on the victim. While I love the challenge of helping victims become thriving survivors (and, btw, I love to use EMDR when I can for this), I realize I hold a lot of internal rage toward the impact of the abuse on the survivor. Writing this book was one way to channel some of that rage into hopefully something redeeming. The writing was cathartic for me, as well as Geri.” ~Seanna
