Most people can't get a handle on this. It's usually not clear to most people. Your spouse is in a constant state of playing a victim. It's very hard to tell if it's even in play. It won't be evident to attorneys and the court but it is to you. You have lived with your spouse so long that you see the signs. The problem with that is your spouse in the short term might be able to influence the court. They can convince the court that they are entitled to a certain level of sympathy. It can impact your rights. If you're dealing with an ex-spouse with a history of playing the victim you need to remember this. Recognize the signs. Document it. Certain things that your ex-spouse may say or do to display their being a victim may show up in court. You need to let your lawyer know about that. Tell your lawyer to watch out for these signs. Watch out when your spouse says this. Watch out if your spouse looks a certain way. These are clues for your lawyer to recognize the signs in the context of hearings. Those clues can tell your lawyer that the court is being manipulated. Boundaries have to be set when your ex-spouse starts acting a certain way. It must be approached head-on. The ploy is meant to distract the court away from what matters. The court cannot be manipulated like that.
