You are a recipient of a default judgment of divorce. What are you going to do? What is the appropriate thing to do? There are different things that cause a default. It could be that you got the papers. You look at them. You didn't think there was anything to fight about. A default judgment was entered against you because you chose to do nothing. In that circumstance, the likelihood is that there's not a whole lot to fight about anyway. If there was, you would have taken action. The more prevalent problem is you get a default judgment of divorce, you didn't even know the proceedings were going on. They are not home routinely. They were served with substituted service. Maybe they're estranged. They don't have much of a relationship with the ex-spouse. Now you have an onerous judgment entered against you. Call your lawyer immediately. There are time-sensitive things that have to be done to get the judgment overturned. When somebody sits on their rights too long it works against the court giving a favor. The lawyer will file a motion to set aside the default judgment. You will have to come up with legitimate reasons why you didn't respond.
