What is supervised visitation? What does it really mean? The court tries to maintain the parent-child relationship that existed. The relationship that existed before the divorce proceeding. If the parent has a normal family situation the court won't find any reason to alter the situation. The court requires a supervisor in a supervised visitation when something out of the ordinary is happening. One of the parents is now addicted to drugs. The court may be concerned. The parent in an unsupervised arrangement, might take the child away. Putting the child in a dangerous situation. Supervised visitation is not meant to be permanent. It is designed to address a situation. The situation that existed before requiring supervised visitation may no longer exist. The court can order the lifting of supervised visitation.
