What happens with alimony when your ex-spouse starts making more money? You have alimony with your spouse making about 50K. Your spouse starts making a bit more from 50K to 53.5K. It is something you can consider substantial. It's not even worth talking about. The amount of money you will be spending on your lawyer and the filing of the motion for modification will be more. Probably more than the expected benefit from the slight increase in alimony. It isn't worth it in the long run. When your ex-spouse starts making money from 50K to 100K, then that is a substantial change in income. There should be an impact. That is what the court looks for. It justifies looking at the numbers again. The court will look at other factors too. The significant change will justify revisiting alimony.
