Matthew opens with a list of names, yet every name tells a story. The genealogy shows that Jesus is the long-promised Son of David and the Son of Abraham. In addition, God chooses to work through imperfect people, which gives us hope. Joseph models quiet obedience: he trusts God, marries Mary, and names the child Jesus. As a result, his faith becomes part of God’s redemption plan. Later, the Magi arrive. They follow the star, outwit Herod, and offer gifts that point to Jesus’ identity. Therefore, the nations begin to worship the King—just as the prophets said.

Steve prays that we will trust God like Joseph, seek Jesus like the Magi, and rest in God’s faithfulness. In the same way, he gives thanks for answered prayer and lifts up specific needs within the Lifespring Family. Furthermore, he asks that our hearts stay ready to respond when God calls.

Take courage: God keeps His word. Because Jesus fulfills the promises to Abraham and David, we can anchor our hope in Him. Likewise, Joseph’s obedience and the Magi’s worship remind us to act quickly and give freely. Therefore, choose truth and humility today. Because God restores what sin breaks, His forgiveness not only heals—it also sends us out to serve. Finally, let His grace shape your response this week.
