In today’s episode of Lifespring! One Year Bible Rewind, Steve Webb reads Job 23–24 and reflects on the tension between deep trust in God and a healthy reverence for His majesty. Job longs to make his case before God, confident that the Lord would listen, yet overwhelmed by the weight of who God is. These chapters remind us that faith does not erase awe, and trust does not cancel humility.
Refined, Not Forgotten
Today’s reading is Job 23–24.
Job 23:10 — “Surely he knows my way. When he tests me, I will emerge as gold.”
In Job 23, Job expresses a bold confidence that God knows him completely and is refining him, not abandoning him. Even as he struggles to understand his suffering, Job believes his trials have purpose. Yet that confidence is paired with reverence. Job is honest about his fear, recognizing that God’s holiness and power are not things to treat casually.
Chapter 24 widens the lens, as Job looks at injustice in the world and asks why wrongdoing often seems to go unanswered. His questions are not accusations as much as they are cries of faith, spoken by someone who believes God is just, even when justice feels delayed.
On January 8, we remember the death of Galileo Galilei (1642), a pioneering astronomer and a believing Christian who saw the study of creation as a way of honoring its Creator. His life reminds us that faith and honest inquiry need not be enemies, and that humility is essential as truth unfolds over time.

Job reminds us that being refined does not mean being forgotten. Even when God feels distant, He knows our way, listens to our cries, and uses hardship to shape us into something purer and stronger than before.
