Today’s episode of Lifespring! One Year Bible Rewind brings us deeper into the Gospel of Mark as we read chapters 3 and 4. These chapters reveal both the authority and the unsettling power of Jesus — power that heals the broken, confronts hardened hearts, and commands the forces of nature itself. Together, they call us to listen carefully, respond faithfully, and never grow casual about who Jesus truly is.
Stronger Than Satan, Greater Than the Storm
Today’s reading is Mark chapters 3–4.
Mark 3:5 — “After looking around at them with anger and sorrow at the hardness of their hearts, he told the man, ‘Stretch out your hand.’ So he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.”
Mark chapter 3 contains one of the most frequently misunderstood warnings in Scripture: the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. In context, Jesus is not addressing anxious believers, but religious leaders who deliberately attribute the work of God’s Spirit to Satan. Their problem is not ignorance or momentary doubt, but a settled rejection of the truth about who Jesus is.
Jesus makes it clear that Satan does not work against himself. By casting out demons, Jesus is demonstrating that He is stronger than the strong man and is actively reclaiming lives once held captive. Blaspheming the Holy Spirit, then, is not a sin too great to forgive — it is the persistent refusal to accept the only forgiveness God offers through Christ.
In Mark chapter 4, the focus shifts to awe. When Jesus calms a violent storm with a word, the disciples’ fear changes direction. The storm no longer terrifies them — Jesus does. Their reaction reminds us that the One who speaks peace into chaos is not merely a teacher or miracle worker, but the Lord of creation itself.
Together, these chapters confront us with a Jesus who is both compassionate and terrifyingly powerful — worthy of trust, obedience, and reverent awe.
Each day, we pause to remember moments from church history that remind us how God works through faithful people in complex and challenging times, preserving His truth and advancing His purposes across generations.
If today’s reading raised questions or stirred reflection, I’d love to hear from you.

Mark reminds us that Jesus is not safe in the casual sense — He is holy, powerful, and utterly unmatched. Yet for those who trust Him, His power is not a threat but a refuge. Stronger than Satan and greater than every storm, Jesus invites us to respond not with fear, but with faith shaped by awe.
