While there is always room for continued improvement, representation and diversity overall has greatly improved in the general media. Specifically speaking for little girls, today you can see women of all shapes and sizes, pursuing careers of all types, loving in a variety of ways, and living for and prioritizing themselves. However, for many women of a certain age today, there were not many positive role models available to them as little girls. Growing up, most imagery shown and taught to little girls was that of the traditional homemaker/mother or that of a single woman who pursued their career at all costs. Either/Or. And very rarely in positions of leadership or in careers that were not supporting, administrative roles.
In this episode, Alysia and Liz discuss their childhoods, what they remember standing out to them in the media and how it shaped or at the very least impacted how they see themselves and their place in the world and at work today.
