In July of this year, we reached out to researcher and actor Muhammad Abe in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, to learn more about his work as the director of Indonesia Dramatic Reading Festival (IDRF). In the past few years, Abe and IDRF have been responsible for introducing new works by Southeast Asian playwrights to the region and other parts of the world. He gives us a glimpse into the Yogyakarta arts scene, what it’s like to live as an artist in the vibrant city, and the kinds of writing that are coming out of Indonesia.
