On this episode, Becca and I discuss different levels of friendship and why it’s important to have quality friends at each level. For our deepest friendships, we need people with whom we can show up fully as ourselves, even in times when we are feeling shame and vulnerability. For friendships that aren’t as deep, we still need to make sure they are healthy relationships where we are getting our needs met.
We also talk about how it’s not selfish to pay attention to our resources (our time, energy, emotional capacity) and our needs, and orient our friendships accordingly. We don’t have to be friends with everyone, and it is a very healthy, adult behavior to define what we need from friendships and then to seek out people who can fill those needs.
If you want to dive deeper into the concept of getting more fuel from your friendships, check my free download, “7 Ways to Get More Energy from Your Relationships.”
Thank you to Becca for being my guest on this episode. In two weeks, I’ll be back with Mark to talk about making friends. You won’t want to miss it.
