Heroes are characters, fiction or real, who stand bravely in the face of danger, filled with courage, determination, and strength to overcome a challenging situation. Before COVID-19, when we think of heroes, we probably think of Abraham Lincoln, Nelson Mandela, Batman, and Superman as heroes.
The arrival of COVID-19 shifted our perspective. Today, health care workers on the front lines fighting the pandemic are being called heroes. As they serve in the thick of the battle, risking their lives to cure and restore to health those who have contacted the virus, we witness their compassion and tenacity. But it's not the end of the story. As these modern-day heroes continue to fight the ravaging effects of the pandemic each passing day, we hear more and more of their call for support.
