This week on the Noobs show, we welcome back the Podfather himself. Brian Schiller to give us a crash course on ice fishing. Often overlooked and misunderstood, ice fishing can be a very different but also very fun type of experience out on the water!

Brian goes over first and foremost the most important aspect of ice fishing, being safe. He talks about how to find safe ice, the thickness you are looking for to hold a person (4 inches), an atv or snowmobile (6 - 8 inches) and up. He then breaks down some of the essential ice fishing gear you need to get started including ice picks, augers, ice fishing rods and reels, and the most common types of baits used in ice fishing..

The conversation then turns into other things to have like a shack or hut and how shelters can vary from the very basic popup similar to a deer blind to a semi-permanent trailer-like shelter stacked with amenities.

Brian also covers electronics and the basics of how to read and use a flasher, and how to begin to narrow down where you want to start looking to put your holes to find fish.
