Supervised parenting time is not the standard in Michigan courts. A judge will only order this arrangement when there is clear and convincing proof that a child could be at risk if left alone with a parent.

Supervised parenting is the exception, not the rule; the court's default position is regular, unsupervised parenting time:

• To get a supervised order, you must prove to the court that there is a significant and compelling risk to the child's safety.
• Valid reasons for supervision include a history of untreated drug or alcohol abuse, domestic violence, or a credible risk of abduction.
• A judge will likely deny requests based on simple post-divorce distrust or attempts to manipulate the situation.
• Acting out of spite or failing to provide evidence can severely damage your credibility and hurt your case.
