Group Executive for News at the SABC Phathiswa Magopeni says she will no longer be issuing retrenchment letters. This follows an urgent meeting late yesterday afternoon with newsroom employees where they expressed frustration and anger as 400 of the corporation’s employees stand to lose their jobs. The public broadcaster was planning to issue more letters to its workers by today as it seeks to reduce its staff compliment in order to save costs. Some workers have been staging lunch time pickets this week to highlight their opposition to the move. The SA National Editor's Forum says it is concerned about what is has described as instability at the SABC. Here is a clip of what happened during a meeting between management and staff in the newsroom yesterday.
