Worship in Spirit and Truth: The Samaritan Encounter
Central to the sacred role is the interpretation of John 4:23-24, where Jesus defines true worshippers as those who worship the Father "in spirit and truth". Sulistiadi breaks this down into three interconnected principles:
Sincerity (Spirit): Adoration must originate from the inner being, characterized by profound sincerity and a heart transformed by the Spirit. It stands in contrast to performance-based worship that prioritizes external factors.
Truthfulness (Truth): Worship must be rigorously grounded in God’s revealed Word and centered on the person and work of Jesus Christ. It rejects subjective emotions or fleeting trends in favor of sound doctrine.
God-Centeredness: The focus must remain exclusively on glorifying God. Worship is an act of obedience to God’s prescribed will, rather than an avenue for human self-expression or audience approval.
