Question 80 in the Heidelberg Catechism is controversial and polemical, but it is well founded. If church practices reflect doctrine, and if the doctrine of the Gospel is important, then the contrast between salvation through participation in ongoing ritual vs. salvation through the accomplished work of Christ is not a light matter that can be skipped over.
