Sheriff Steve Reams began his career with the Weld County Sheriff's Office in 1997. During his time at the Sheriff's Office he has held many positions in both the Detentions Division and the Patrol Division, allowing him to have an educated understanding of the day to day operations of all parts of the Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Reams received his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Colorado Technical University, is a certified polygraph examiner through the Texas Department of Safety and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico Virginia.
Sheriff Reams oversees 460+ employees between the Patrol, Detentions, Courts, and Volunteer divisions of the Weld County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Reams is statutorily required to provide public safety services to 300,000+ residents in a 4,000 square mile county. He is responsible for the operation of the Weld County Jail which is capable of holding nearly 1,500 inmates and he also serves the courts of the 19th Judicial District.
