When we look at the narratives surrounding the Promised Land (particularly in the Old Testament, such as the Exodus), we see that homecoming—securing a safe place to dwell with God in perfect peace and love—is an utterly crucial aspect of salvation. Salvation requires homecoming. And great salvific acts precede and accompany such homecomings. It is no different in the New Testament.
