The Christian message we receive in this time of Advent is unique among all the other world views and religious expressions.
Only Christianity provides a remedy for our personal sins
and guilt. Only Christianity provides a sure hope for our eternal future.
Other world religions do not lay claim to a divine
foundation at all like Christianity, with one almighty God who deigns to become one with his creation as in the Incarnation, for the plan and purpose of rectifying the separation of humanity from him.
Christians have a unique god-man savior, unlike the god of any other religion before or since the coming of Christ. All
other religions say salvation is up to the individual to earn or achieve. Christians say salvation is done because of Jesus, and freely given to us who don’t deserve it.
And why is this so important? Why is Advent such a crucial
"So how can salvation be reconciled with divine holiness and justice? This is posing the question in the right way. The Christian answer is that God decided to pay the price himself
for human sin. Not just this sin or that sin, but all sin. God did this by becoming a man [living in perfect, righteous 0bedience] and dying on the cross. I want to reflect for a moment on God's incredible sacrifice. I am not referring to Christ's crucifixion. I am referring to God's decision to become a man. No other religion can even conceive this. The Greek and Roman gods of antiquity often disguised themselves as mortals, but they would not actually
become mortal. Mexican author Carlos Fuentes writes that when a Christian missionaries first presented their doctrine to the Aztecs, the Aztecs were totally uncomprehending. Fuentes writes, 'In a universe accustomed to seeing
men sacrificed to the gods, nothing amazed the Indians more than the sight of a God who had sacrificed himself for men.” Yet what other religions hold to be absurd and scandalous, Christianity holds to be true.[1]
The exclusive truth claims of Christianity are, in short, irreconcilable with any other religious tradition. Christianity alone gives us the answer. “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matt 11:28
