Holy Saints Series
When he became 18, he became a monk in a local monastery. From the first, he gave himself up to the practice of an austerity so extreme and to all appearance so extravagant, that his brethren judged him to be unsuited to any form of community life. He felt that the rules of the monastery did not seem strict enough, and felt he should give up everything to serve God. He disciplined himself by eating less food than the other monks and praying more hours a day. His fellow monks eventually asked Simeon to leave the monastery.
