Once, I went with my partner at the time to Disneyland, and somewhere between the crowds, the long lines, and a glimpse of our reflection in the Haunted Mansion, I found myself wondering if love is supposed to feel more exciting than this.
We've been sold the idea that love should constantly feel like fireworks, adventure, and butterflies. In reality, love often looks much quieter. It's commitment. Loyalty. Choosing each other even when life feels repetitive. The spark doesn't disappear—it simply settles into embers that need tending.
I also realized something else: my boyfriend doesn't actually like Disneyland. He goes because it makes me happy.
And that led me to another realization—one person cannot be your everything.
Your partner doesn't have to be your best friend, therapist, travel companion, adventure buddy, and sole source of entertainment all wrapped into one. Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do for a relationship is build a life outside of it.
Love isn't less meaningful because it's comfortable. Sometimes comfort is the greatest expression of love there is.
And if all else fails, at least s*x is still cheaper than Disneyland.
