Supernatural Tales From Mamaw's Front Porch

Salem Part Two

Listen Later

In Part Two of our Salem series, we continue our journey through the city where history and haunting walk hand in hand. The witch trials may have ended in 1693, but their echoes still linger — woven into the walls of Salem’s oldest and most mysterious places.

We begin at the House of the Seven Gables, a grand 17th-century mansion built by Captain John Turner and immortalized by Nathaniel Hawthorne’s novel of the same name. Within its black timbers and hidden staircases, visitors have seen spectral figures and heard laughter that drifts from empty rooms. It’s a place where beauty and tragedy coexist — a reminder that even the finest homes can’t escape Salem’s shadows.

Next, we turn to the Joshua Ward House, standing on the cursed ground once owned by Sheriff George Corwin — the man who oversaw the arrests and executions during the witch trials. His dark legacy still stains the earth beneath the foundation, and those who enter the Ward House speak of choking sensations, cold air that moves like breath, and the infamous photograph that may have captured one of Salem’s most restless spirits.

Finally, we step into The Witch House, home of Judge Jonathan Corwin — the only surviving structure directly tied to the trials. Behind its steep gables and black timber walls, Corwin once sat in judgment over the accused. Visitors say the air still hums with guilt and sorrow, and that the spirits of those condemned have never truly left.

Join me as we uncover the final chapters of Salem’s haunted legacy — where history refuses to fade, and the past continues to whisper through the centuries.
