BAFTA award-winning writer Sally Wainwright has been bringing television drama to our screens for nearly 25 years starting out on The Archers, Emmerdale and Coronation Street. Sally continued to hone her craft on programmes including the BAFTA-nominated At Home with the Braithwaites 15 years ago. Sally is especially admired for the quality of her dialogue, and how she brings women, relationships and landscapes to life – from ITV’s Unforgiven and Scott and Bailey, to the BBC’s Happy Valley and currently back for a third series, Last Tango in Halifax.
In this special masterclass, Sally speaks to Mark Lawson about her screenwriting process, how she found her voice as a writer, and what she has learnt from her mistakes as well as her successes.
Recorded at BAFTA 195 Piccadilly on 24 February 2015.
