The arrival of Heinrich Kreische in La Grange would mark a turning point in the history of Fayette County. Kreische built a brewery on the bluff overlooking La Grange. Begun in 1860 and completed in 1866 Kreische's Bluff Beer soon became the third largest brewery in the state of Texas. His competition from St. Louis brewers August Busch and Adam Lemp along with the railroad would soon spell the demise of Kreische's Brewery.
