Author Mari Ribeiro has written three children’s books including Salsita’s Magic, a story about a playful, mischievous orangutan who lives in Borneo and loses something precious. In her quest to find it, she discovers something even more priceless. Follow her on a  journey through the dense, beautiful jungle. Other books in the Salsita series include: Piccola the porcupine who has a hard time fitting in. She feels lonely and is convinced that nobody loves her. Determined to find her place in the world, she sets off on a brave journey to the forests of Borneo. The other book in the series is Dotty Saves the Day. Dotty the octopus, is the only survivor among her siblings. She is used to living on her own until she meets an unlikely friend who changes her way of looking at the world. All of her children’s books have characters that either have a disability or are dealing with fears and/or insecurities.

Mari Ribeiro spent almost 31 years as an Academic advisor counseling and teaching college students. In the fall of 2020 she embarked on a second career as an Author. Something she dreamed about doing since she started writing at 13 years old. In January of 2025 she self-published her autobiography, The Middle of the Road. The book focuses on growing up with a disability and living in a dysfunctional home. In her preface she wrote, “Writing is not a hobby, it’s a mission.” And her mission was and is to motivate and inspire women with a similar background to not only survive but thrive  with the full knowledge that they are never defined by their past.
