When God created you and I, He was pleased, but the devil came and sowed  diverse seeds (sin and all its consequences). Because God couldn't destroy sin without destroying the carrier which is man, because He loves you so much, He instead sent Jesus Christ to die on the cross for your sake so that you don't have to die. 

Jesus destroyed sin and its consequences on you as well. 

All He is saying is that Believe that He did that for you, and receive HIM today as your personal Lord & Saviour and you shall be separated from sin and all its consequences.
