Salvation Is For the Humble

Primary Scripture: Luke 2:1-7; 8-20; John 1:9-13

Primary Topic: Jesus’ birth was humble. It did not come with the celebration and pomp that most kings

would require. His birth was made known to a mute priest, shepherds, and a few other lowly people. It was

kept from King Herod, who desperately opposed it. This is a stark reminder that Jesus came for the sinners

rather than the righteous. It is those who know their condition and need for renewal – tax collectors and

prostitutes - who are entering God’s kingdom ahead to the spiritually pride.

Prompting Questions: What is humility before God? What makes humility so challenging to move

towards? Why is humility required for salvation in Christ? How does someone who recognizes that they are

prideful move towards humility?
