Jesus often talked with His disciples about the evils still around us today. His list of evils isn’t exhaustive, of course. Jesus could have just as easily added other sins that He and Moses and Isaiah and Peter and Paul warned against. The reality is all of the Ten Commandments have been broken by all people in all cultures for all times. Where do these sins come from? Jesus clearly says: They come from inside our hearts.

A thousand years earlier, in the book of Proverbs, Solomon warned us to “Guard your heart.” If you don’t guard your heart, evil things will come out. This applies to every sphere of life, and certainly proved true in Solomon’s own experience.

Jesus’ half-brother, James, says that anytime we choose our will over against God’s revealed will in one specific area, we’re actually breaking the whole law of God.

Yes, sin is a temporal reality. Thank God that salvation in Jesus Christ is the eternal solution. I never get tired of John 3:16, which says: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Believe in Jesus Christ. Receive Him and His love in your heart today, and you will have eternal life.
