His partner Sue Stanley recognised the stroke symptoms and called an ambulance, with Newman crediting her quick thinking with potentially saving his life. The veteran broadcaster is now speaking publicly about his experience to raise awareness about stroke symptoms, as more than 45,000 Australians suffer strokes annually.
